Why I wrote GSD Factor Juniors

Hi, GSD Factor friends!  R.C. Farrish here! 

I get a lot of questions about being an author at my age. The number one question is, “What made you want to write a book?”

I heard my Mom tell people that she was going to write a book which I thought was super cool. Then 2 to 3 years later, she had written not 1, not 2, but 3 books! I was so proud of her. She said she was going to do something and she did it. I knew right away that I wanted to write a book so I could be just like my Mom. 

When I started telling people that I was going to write a book, they just laughed and said that I was too young. Some people told me that I hadn’t lived long enough to share anything worthwhile, which I didn’t really understand what that meant. I have been told a lot of things by kids and adults, but sometimes my Mom tells me to ignore what they say. She tells me that maybe they are jealous and wish they were like me. She also tells me to use that as a motivator to finish my goals and do what I say I’m going to do.

When you put all our books together you get the GSD Factor Life Series. Now I know what you are thinking, what does GSD stand for? Well I’m not allowed to say the real “s” word until I’m older so we just say, “Get Stuff Done.” We say this a lot in our family! 

My Mom created the GSD Factor which is made up of 6 attributes and they are be confident, be inquisitive, be imaginative, be present, be resilient, and be influential. When I decided to write my book I wanted there to be ninjas for each one of these because my little brother and I do karate. 

You see, each ninja has a story to share. Maybe it’s a story about being confident and wearing clothes that make us happy even if people laugh. Or maybe it’s a story about being influential and helping kids at school work together. No matter what day it is you may need help from 1 ninja but maybe even 2 ninjas and that’s ok. It’s ok to ask for help.

My GSD Factor Juniors book is in my school library. It’s the number one book that is checked out and even though they have 3 copies, it is always checked out. I guess that means the kids in my school are enjoying it! And I guess that’s another reason I wanted to write a book, was to share with other kids my age.
